What is the deal with all the Hmongs invading Clear Lake? Are they there in the summer as well? Must have cleaned out all the lakes around their towns in Minnesota and are moving south to pillage natural resources!

Used to be some in Allamakee County but they may have got them cleaned out. That was 4 or 5 years ago.

Why are we bashing the locals that are such a “pain”. You are a guest in our backyard, most of us have hunted and fished in the same spots here since we were born. We share them with others from “out of town” every weekend and understand that you have a right to come up and for the most part are welcoming. If the locals up here in NE Iowa are such a pain stay down in your area and leave gods country to people who appreciate the land and folks up here! There is probably a reason that you are getting the cold shoulder from the “locals”!

I spend a large portion of my time in Northern MN fishing and appreciate the “locals” who provide me services, sell me bait, give me directions. I realize that I am a guest in someone else’s home territory and try to be respectful. Over the years have made many friends and have never had an issue.

    Think about it!!!!!!

We used to go out in the evenings and ice fish up there. Stay out until about midnight, did really well. That was over 10 years ago but I am sure it would still be a decent night bite.

I know this place gets called the “Dead Sea” but I had a blast catching crappies there a couple of weeks ago. Nothing bug but it is a nice place to spend the afternoon. The park itself is a neat place. Drove 2 hours to fish today and would have caught more out there I am sure. Anyone hear anything from this weekend?

I have ahd both for ice fishing and they both have pluses and minus. I have a Polaris Sportman 500 and it will go through some pretty deep snow, has higher clearance than some other brands. I love the 4-wheeler and have no desire to own another sled, much less maintenance, easier to get off the trailer. I can carry a lot of equipment on mine and even got a hitch haul to put in the receiver that lets me put my tent or people on the back. If needed I can also hook up the 5 by 8 trailer I pull it with to the back and carry people or equipment. It is a blast to ride all year round.

The river in general is slow right now. Spent last two days hitting it really hard with everything and talked to lots of people, not much happening. Could turn around by next weekend though. They are having a fisheree there next weekend.

Thanks for the info, yeah the price is kind of what got us to Perrault and knowing people there. Hope it is somewhat decent fishing. Hard to justify the $1500 dollar fly in compared to a $300 per person per week cabin. The best Canada experience I have ever had was Ghost River Camp, excellent accomodations and fishing. Pretty close to Sioux Lookout of I remember right. That has gotten a little bit expensive as well. Will give this a try, heck being in Canada for a week can’t be a bad thing fish or no fish!

I have the ICE 35 and go out almost every weekend. Had it for 4 years now. Has been a great unit, I fish mostly on the Mississippi backwaters and it has a good zoom feature. I have used it in deeper water 10-20 ft. and worked great then as well. Many people swear by the Vexilar and Marcum but I am completely happy with this. I think you would be good with any of the Birds, 35, 45, or 55. I have not used a Vex or Marcum but have had many people tell me that the Humminbord is just as good. Especially for the money!

There was 10 inches of solid ice today on Volga Lake. Very small crappies and not many of them.

I haver not fished Volga for quite sometime until this year. Like the others said nothing big but you could probably get enough for a meal. Going there tomorrow instead of driving all the way to the river. Especially since the wind is supposed to pick up in the p.m. This is a fun place if you don’t have time to trek over to the river.

Anyone know if it would be safe to take an atv out on Volga?
