See the thread on Handgun hunting… last page or so… CO’s have too much power. That guy IS CLEARLY A DBAG. Who cares if he’s having a bad day. He’s out trying to be a punk and you should have told him.

You were legall with a licence?

I’da asked him if he wanted to box off the record and if he wins ill pay his “Ima a dbag” fine and if I win I get his truck, his guns, his wife and all his antlers he has in his house.

And they wonder why some sportsmans have no respect for them.

I would NEVER NEVER NEVER question the authority of an Iowa Sherrif, or a Police officer, or a Trooper.

    But a Conservation Officer?

We don’t know who to trust.

    Ouchie.
    😡 😡 😡

The more posts like this I read, the more I say cousins shouldn’t be allowed to reproduce. 🙄

Just incase you are again confused BK, yep, that’s disrespectful. 🙄

I talked to Mark Edwards Boone County DNR Law enforecment and he told me that I can carry concealed with my permit while hunting. I can also carry concealed while bowhunting. That kind of suprised me but that is what I was told.

I just want it in quotes. 😉 This response will stir a lot of debate.

I actually don’t need to call my CO as I know the answer to the question.

Just funny how different CO’s have different answers to one clearly stated law. 😉

A clean barrell is an accurate barrel.

Not always. I actually always fire a primer off in mine bfore I hunt to get some ” dirt” in it. Shoots better!

I’ve also seen may barels that shoot much different between the cold bore (clean) shot and the next 30.

Duck, it REALLY depends on what powder you are shooting. I shoot Blackhorn 209. I try to clean it within a day wether hunting or at a range session (difference between 1-20 shots). The nice thing about BH209 is your 1st shot and 20th shot will be the same without cleaning between. I’ve heard of guns firing as many as 200 rounds through a bore over a weekend with only cleaning at the end of each day. ALso, you can use your same centerfire cleaning supplies on BH, actually it’s prefered.

By the way I’m right there with you shooting a muzzy during 1st gun season. Everyone says I need 20+ rounds of shotgun ammo for first shotgun. I think I need 2 rounds with the muzzleloader, and the second is just for that “what if’ scenario.

Anyone know what the thinking is on this rule? One would think that the DNR would want people out killing more does if they are willing to go. More deer harvested, more money for the state, more people getting time to enjoy hunting and maybe introduce someone to the sport. I guess I don’t see why they won’t let you.

    Any ideas?

I think the thinking is to limit the number of hunters in the woods at any one time. Since Iowa has such a small percentage of land that holds deer (in most areas 90%+ is tilled) if we ahd only one season (WI, MN, etc.) or if we could all hunt both seasons there would be double the numbers of hunters on the same pieces of land increasing the odds of accidents and probably lowering the number of deer hunts that were effective.

    Matt

Absolutely migh be right. Just seems like a POOR (on the States part) excuse to limit peples opportunities to hunt.

He can do whatever he wants bigknee, who are you to tell him hes wrong. The majority of deer are shot on the run during shotgun season because of party hunting and pushers. There is no right or wrong set up for shotgun hunting and if it works for the person, then it is perfectly fine. You do what works for you and others will do what works for them. Mind you own business, there are to many people on this site that think they are the best hunter in the world and try to tell others what to do but just make themselves look bad. People do things differently, and just because its not what you would do doesn’t mean its wrong and give you the right to criticize. It pathetic how these forums always end up like this because of members like you. Why cant we all just support each other and try to help out instead of put downs and jealous posts.

    What more can be said???

    You nailed it RutnStrut!

Maybe they realized it was a shed buck but there tag reads “antlerless”. Though he may have lost those pretty antlers he still has all that meat on his bones to fill the freezer. “BDD “Big Deer Down”. Just saying that it may be no mistakes were made and the person reported it correctly and chose to shoot that deer knowing what it was. The right deer and the right time I’d have no problem doing it.

Edit ~ I’m actuallty surprised how many people are against the late seson antlerless or the november antlerless for various reasons. I understand all points but just think people are looking more at how it negatively effects them rather than how it’s another opportunity to hunt.

Whatever gets more people out there hunting is probably a good thing, and anything that extends my season is good. 😉

Congrats on the deer to your father. Absolutely a deer to get mounted as it’s a special one and a different one thatn is seen on many walls in homes across Iowa. It’s not about the rack on the head but the hunt itself. A buddy of mine has a small six ( most would pass it up) that he had mounted because it was his first deer with a revolver. ALso it was shot at 150 yards with a .357 Mag. Thats one you tell stories about when people ask about it. Just like this mulie!!

Adjust it to be dead on at 100 and I bet you’ll see very little change at 50 yards. The further out you go the more the imperfections are magnified.

Beat me to it Doc 😉
