A big thanks to Tony for the vision and creation of the original Iowa Outdoors website, and thanks to the Iowa Sportsman and Patrick for taking it over and moving it into a new era. Cheers!

The Central Iowa Gun Dog Club will be starting up again in a few weeks. They have remote launchers that can be used during training times, usually Wednesday nights or Saturday mornings out at Docs Hunt Club. If you want more info send me a PM. Personally, with pigeons, I just use the tip up “launchers” and keep the dog on a check cord until he stops running in on the birds.

I make a do-all spice from garlic, salt, black pepper, pepper, cayenne, Italian seasoning, and cumin. I keep this in a standard spice container. For a more minimal way, you can put spices in straws and seal the ends with heat.
For oil, I’ll put canola in those 2oz plastic airplane bottles.
For a pot, I use one of those stanley 24oz “pots” and a couple of smaller posts that fit inside it.
For a stove I use a cheap Walmart Ozark Trail that fits inside the pots. I’ve smashed too many nice stoves to care any more although a JETBOIL is on the list of things I “need”.
If I need to cook larger items and need a griddle or grill I’ll carry a small 10″ grill grate and aluminum foil. This can be use to cook over fire or the stove.
I can easily get by with one 8oz can of gas for 6 meals.

Typical liberal drivel that does NOTHING to make anyone “safer”. Never let a crisis go to waste.llewellinsetterBlockedMarch 13, 2018 at 11:50 pmPost count: 2514
I just found out that my BIL was the first responder along with his fire crew at the scene of the VA shooting. If I can pry any details in the coming days I’ll let you know.llewellinsetterBlockedMarch 13, 2018 at 7:33 pmPost count: 2514llewellinsetterBlockedMarch 13, 2018 at 1:55 pmPost count: 2514

Albert Wong was a former military rifleman, with four awards and a marksman award. Also, he carried a rifle into the building and was heavily armed.
Sorry, thought you were talking about the guy that killed the two cops. Amazing how all this can be happening in the state with the most restrictive firearms policies.llewellinsetterBlockedMarch 12, 2018 at 11:01 pmPost count: 2514
An uncle of mine always grows a couple of roma plants off of porch in hanging posts every year with great results. Easy peasy.llewellinsetterBlockedMarch 12, 2018 at 10:54 pmPost count: 2514

Why do you suppose there are no reports coming out of California on the weapon that the former military veteran used in the deadly shooting Friday. The day of the shooting, the ABC World news reported a semi-automatic rifle. What about the gun that the shooter used in the killing of 1 officer and the wounding of another in Pomona, California, also Friday. Maybe they don’t want the world to know that one of the states with the strictest gun control laws on the books don’t work or maybe their sanctuary state status failed.
He did NOT serve in the military. He took part in the JROTC program when he attended Garey High School as a student. Also nearly three years ago, he was sent to state prison for illegally possessing a firearm and ammunition and discharging a gun in a school zone, as well as destruction of jail property.llewellinsetterBlockedMarch 12, 2018 at 5:07 pmPost count: 2514

Now, just need decent weather to sight in at 10, 20 and 50 yards, then should be shooting 50 to 75 yards with very good accuracy.
Agree with the last two guys about x-bows during the regular archery season, the quote above is the reason why. I know people will say “but compound bows, etc.,” but the average guy let alone a proficient bow hunter hunting with a compound bow still can’t reliably shoot out much past 40 yards with even the best conditions. I’d like them to go as far restricting any electronic or magnification type sights as well.
As for the Classic, it was nice with the light traffic and the quality of vendors and spectators created one of the better shows I’ve seen down there in a while. It was like there was something in the water and everyone was being as friendly as possible.llewellinsetterBlockedMarch 11, 2018 at 8:32 pmPost count: 2514
A buddy of mine uses them for bow hunting, for that purpose they are a very nice bino for the money, especially considering the very large FOV. If you get them at the price in the link above, you will have made a great choice in your budget.llewellinsetterBlockedMarch 9, 2018 at 9:47 pmPost count: 2514
On a whim I got my wife a SCCY CPX-1 from BassPro for $199.
We’ve since run a couple of hundred rounds of American Eagle through it without a hiccup. The only negatives I can come up with are the really stiff springs in the mags and a super long trigger. The double action trigger is excessively LONG but it’s very smooth and clean. Reviews are all over the board on these and I’ve yet to shoot it enough to call it a reliable carry gun but we both really enjoy shooting the one we have. For the price you really can’t go wrong or at the very least it’s something to consider.llewellinsetterBlockedMarch 9, 2018 at 3:32 pmPost count: 2514
Ruger has sold more than 5 Million 10/22 rifles, good luck making them “illegal”.llewellinsetterBlockedMarch 9, 2018 at 2:09 amPost count: 2514

Nikon Monarch 10×42 III These are 187$ but they are very good binoculars and are usually around $250. I lost a pair and wish I had them back again.
Camofire is a great resource and they have awesome customer service. The Monarch 3 are a good choice for the money as well but I would not go with a 10×42 for bowhunting.llewellinsetterBlockedMarch 7, 2018 at 9:57 pmPost count: 2514
There used to be a guy on DSM Craigslist with pigeons all the time for $5 or so.
Here’s the info…
