Josh, there are counties in Iowa where a couple large parties can push every large bit of cover in the county opening day. AND they will push them even if you are in there. 😯

Hosh it isn’t that old a tradition, because I remember when there was no deer season. Why,’mainly
because army’s of men would walk section by section shooting everything. I think that everyone needs to Not point fingers, and accuse other folks of ‘dividing’ the ranks. There isn’t anything wrong with discussion. I think the real issue is the size of the parties. 😕

I remember Herters. Still have a few items. Still have a J.C. Higgins goose call and .22 scope
and part of a box of Western Field 12ga bird loads. Might still have a couple
Herters lures if I stir the tackle room a bit. Believe there are a hundred or so
National Geographic magazines in there too. 😳

    Cheaperthandirt has .22lr Blazers, box 525 for $18.66 a box. That’s a tad over $.035, + shipping.
    That would 5250 for $188.60 +. 😉

I don’t agree. Just because some folks do not agree with the existing legal methods of taking deer, it does not mean that they are ‘dividing’ the ranks. Personally I think the large drives are nothing but fodder for the anti hunting folks. 😐

Tim you should be able to get into CCI Blazer ammo for under $.04 a round. 😕

What I’m hearing is either I join a group, or I don’t hunt shotgun. Please understand that do to some real life experiences, I am not comfortable in a large armed group. I’d split the difference, limit first season to parties of 6 and open 2nd season to armies. Now I know that’s not going to fly with party hunters, but I am entitled to an opinion too.
You will see a day when party hunting is restricted. my .02 😐

Some of the edges might get problematic, but. Sometimes a little rain can spur a bite at areas where water enters a lake. The ‘walk bridge’ on the north end of Spirit if there is water coming thru ‘the Grade’. Another is the NE corner of Center Lake where the slough behind the DOT garage drains in. 😉

Denny I try to see if we can get a poll worked up. I too do not care for massive deer drives.
Doc, yes you guys might run a tight/safe ship, but there are those that don’t. Plus not all counties
have booming populations and thousands of acres of deer cover. Some of the north central and
north west counties what little cover there is looks and sounds like a battle zone. I would like to
see a limit on the size of hunting parties. 😕

There are plastic pallets too. Occasionally they get broken and are discarded. Check with you local pallet ‘barn’ and see if they have any you could get. They will last many times longer than wood. 😉

One thing that effects all predators is food supply. Years with more mice and rabbits equals more surviving pups in the breeding stock the next season. 😐

I had one many moons ago. The biggest problem with is is the walls are so thin that in cool/cold weather you can’t retain any heat. I used mine for cold smoking small trout and small bullheads. 😉

PF is correct there is a cycle to the fox population. It seems to evolve around food mainly. Studies seem to roughly indicate a range of 4-7 year cycles, but that varies dependent on local food base. Europe and North America voles, hares/rabbits, mice and lemmings are primary food bases. Over the years in western Iowa I think the fox populations have stayed close to a 7 year cycle. When I was young, we could hunt/trap fox year around. Still had a bounty. 😉
