Nice video! What camera do you use to film your hunts?

Thanks! I just use a GoPro Session and my iPhone. I’ve tried to bring other equipment with me, and I just end up not using it.

If I’m by myself, I usually tie on the biggest bait I can find and cast at them until they get the hint.

If I’m with my brother, I just laugh as he berates them. “Big lake, huh?” “Want me to bait your hook for you?” “Your boyfriend doesn’t mind that you went fishing without him?” Stuff like that. 😆

BECAUSE CARP CAUSE WATER QUALITY ISSUES BY STIRRING UP SEDIMENT, THUS LIMITING THE GROWTH OF VEGETATION WHICH LITTLE FISHIES NEED TO AVOID PREDATION … TO NAME ONE REASON.

    Cool.

With as much as you video you need to upgrade to a cannon G20, G30 or G40. I like the G20 I have and they are a bargain now compared to when I bought mine 4 years ago. I have a rode mic and a varizoom controller using the lanc.

You would love the set up.

I would love to buy a really nice dedicated video camera, but I’m just a poor sports writer. 😀

Thanks, guys. He’s definitely on the right track and he’s become a bit of a good luck charm. He went turkey hunting with us this spring for the first time and I killed a tom, and now this. We might have to let him tag along more often.

I like your videos you don’t miss much.

    A few questions.

Does the dog respond better to the high girly man voice?

Is there anything living in your beard?

    😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆

    1. Yes

Thanks for the kind words, everyone! I’ve got the ice fishing itch real bad right now. Hoping to put a few fishing videos together soon!

The attitude of different sportsmen is likely due to a combination of opportunity, difficulty, competition and desirability.

A sportsman seeking an animal that is abundant, easily acquired, unpressured and is not considered either a trophy or particularly tasty (i.e. a catfish) is more likely to be pleasant.

Congratulations! Sounds like quite a thrilling adventure. I’ve thought about hunting bison at some point, but I’m not sure I’d want to do it that way. 😯

Beautiful sight. Have you looked at west okoboji? Is the entire east lake covered or just some?

All of East Lake north of The Narrows is capped. I haven’t looked anywhere else. If East Lake just capped overnight, I’m sure West O and Big Spirit are still mostly open, but smaller bays are probably capped as well.

NW winds 15-20 tomorrow morning. Myself and two buddies from work are going to give it a go. It is going to get cold after that and the small marshes lock up quick like over night.

Best of luck to you, sir! Stay dry and stay warm.

Man, I have heard some horror stories this year. Buddy of mine found two dead bucks on his property today that were gut shot over the weekend and left to rot. It’s a damn shame…

Sounds like you had a great weekend! I really enjoy the picture as well — nice close-up showing color and contrast. B)

I wouldn’t blame Mother Nature for the artificially imposed rules that we humans place on ourselves, though. The weather is what it is, merely the result of a delicate balance between the location of earth relative to the sun, the composition of our atmosphere, air and water currents, and so forth. If we want to have a “real” duck season I think we need to adapt to the whims of Mother Nature rather than expect Mother Nature to conform to our rules. 😯 Just my two cents.

Can we get Mother Nature and the Iowa DNR to sit down and agree on the best time to shoot ducks every year?

Another really good one that’s not about hunting so much as outdoor survival, is “Avalanche” by Arthur Roth.

that seems like a pretty petty thing to not be friends with someone about. like high school drama. we cook our tenderloin many different ways. sometimes in soup chunks, somtimes stuffed.

Look, I’m not saying its a mature, or even a justifiable position. I just think they’re not enjoying that particular cut of meat the way a fella should, and in doing so, it illuminates a character flaw.

I will add that I could be entirely wrong … but I doubt it.

Not exactly Hunting, but The Call of the Wild and White fang kept me entertained and I have probably read both over 30 times. I also like Gary Paulsen, Hatchet, Brian’s Winter and Woods Runner.

I TOTALLY forgot about Hatchet. That was another good one.

My absolute favorite books growing up were Wilson Rawls’ “Where the Red Fern Grows” and Jean Craighead George’s “My Side of the Mountain”.

Both are probably more suited for readers age 9-12. I think they might be a little bit young for any readers age 15+, but they’re still really great stories.
