Looks neat, they have walleyes in there? My kayak has a motor though and it looks like those are against the rules… 🙂

I hope they pass laws like that here. Nothing I love more than civil disobedience. Something terrible must have happened to Tedbugle when he was a child. I wonder if he was raised by carp or dropped on his head into lead paint or what.

No need to insult the guy……….. I don’t agree with his opinion but don’t see a need to hate on him because of it……..

We’ve done that stretch, one of our guys did hammock camp but it is always work to find a suitable site for him. when the river is high during the stretch finding a good sandbar to camp on camp be tricky. It’s a good spot to float.

I have to agree with others on this. It seems they are doing everything they can. Personally I would be happy that they recognized an issue and are working to fix it. That’s a lot better than getting something that doesn’t work right or even worse is down right dangerous. I’d say count your blessings they just didn’t ship it out, that sounds like a pretty responsible company to me and you are just being a little bit of an over zealous consumer. Give them a break, either let them make it right or collect your refund and move on.

I was going to post something about this yeaterday but you already beat me to it. I hope someone on here has answers! I did it last year with a buddy of mine on kayaks and it was a terrible idea. Still managed 6th place out of 20 teams though! I just hope its not as windy and cold like last year in the morning.

We are planning on holding a couple of kayak tournaments for C.I.K.A. this year. Tournaments will be multi-species if your interested. Meaning one tournament the focus might be crappies, the next could be Catfish, or even carp. We are still pounding all the details for this year and will only do 1 or 2 tournaments tops but plan on expanding to 4 or 5 in the future. Each tournament will feature a different species at the end of the final tournament we will crown Iowa’s Greatest Kayak Angler.

^^^^ Wow that was real helpful………….

Just hook it up and turn it on to ice mode you’ll need to rig away to suspend the ice ducer in the hole. The bird kits seem a little pricey lot of guys use pool noodles, the ducer itself is self leveling basically however you hang it down the hole it will level out

Look for birds diving into the water and shad boiling. The whitebass form massive schools and herd the shad to the surface or against deep pockets next to the shore. Targeting windblown shorelines is usually a good bet. If you don’t see much bird or shad boiling they may not be feeding.

Just as with seat belts or helmets – my choice….

Recently reported: Odd of being killed in an accident substantially increase when leaving your home – Keep all doors locked and stay inside.

You really want the government telling u how to live your life? If so you should on the anti gun bandwagon.

Your choice to be dumb, foolish, and disrespectful of your family for putting yourself unnecessarily in harms way. By harms way I mean something that common sense tells most people they could prevent death by doing one simple thing.

Sorry to be direct, but 2 drownings in 2 hours time tells me there’s a problem. Be safe people, please.

It’s ok It’s pretty clear there you called him dumb. It’s not ok that you think that is ok. It’s not ok for mod’s to protect you because you are longtime member. You could have used a better choice of words. In fact you remove the word dumb and your no longer making a personal attack. I’m not ok with that regardless of who you are.

Trolls this guy just called another guy dumb, clear violation of the rules on this site and yet he goes unchecked by the mods who is the problem here? I’m all for a civil discussion but when you start personally attacking someone with names because you don’t agree with their personal choice that is a problem or this a forum that lets certain people get away with it while others are quickly banned……..

Two Drowning in two hours doesn’t indicate a problem. It’s not like there is 100’s of drownings at red rock every year. I appreciate your concern but you also need to appreciate and respect peoples right to not wear one and the moderators on this forum will force you to that. Personally I do not use mine on my kayak when I’m on a lake unless it’s rough water but always have it on in the river. The day the drowning occurred the wind was pretty nasty on red rock. I don’t know the details of the 50 year old man other than they said a life jacket was on his kayak. This was possibly an inexperienced kayaker but the size of the waves and the number pleasure boaters on red rock nobody had any business being in a kayak out there the day the drownings occurred. The child that drowned seemed to be parents who were not paying attention a decision I’m sure they will regret for the rest of their life. Further more calling people names I’m pretty sure is frowned upon by the mods here.

I used to be that guy that would say you can’t beat the real thing. I was wrong, I started exclusively using plastics 3 years ago. One of the biggest factors is making sure you use scented plastics and having a wide variety of colors to choose from. All it takes is confidence and once you have that you won’t look back. For those who say you can’t beat live bait go to an ice fishing tournament almost all the guys will be using plastics and see if you beat any of them.

I used Brenneke KO for years before I got a rifled barrel. Great slugs though my smooth bore. No issue with dropping deer up to 70 yards with just a bead. Since I’ve upgraded to a different shotgun for deer season I haven’t used them much. I have no desire to shoot them through my rifled barrel.

For those of you who were asking about the Helix 5 Si It allows you to capture screen shots. I only grabbed a couple but the unit worked great from the kayak.

How do u like your helix? I just bought one. Any tips?

Absolutely love it, my previous unit was Lowrance Elite 5 DSI also a very good unit but it had limitations like it would only do “down imaging” it was also a power hog. The new bird is great I would recommend the new helix models to anyone. The side imaging worked better than I could have ever imagined I had no issues capturing images of trees, brush piles, laydowns, logs, rocks, concrete structures, deep holes, ect. I could travel along with the side imaging mark a tree I seen submerged 80 feet to the side of me with the GPS and then paddle right to the tree. Switch the sonar to downscan and see if I can find any of those sexy little white dots around the tree limbs. Once fish were found I would switch to the 2D Color graph and drop my jig vertically right on top of the fish. That’s really the real beauty of kayak fishing you can really sneak up of fish sometimes that is hard to do in 20 foot boat.

I was initially concerned that the 5″ screen would be too small to read the side imaging screen and boy was I wrong it worked fabulous and made me happy I went with the 5 instead of the 7″ as the 5″ screen takes up a good amount of space the in the *censored*pit area of the yak. As far as tricks go I don’t have any yet I’ve been out on the water with it only once. It gives me the ability to take screenshots. I’ll try and grab some of those snapshots next time i’m out to share with you guys.

    I’m also in the market, would like a SI and a Hummin Bird so it would be compatible with my I-Pilot trolling motor. 2 Questions;
Anyone have the 5″ screen and if so is it big enough
My I-pilot has built in transducer, would you hook up to this or have separate transducer so you can use the side S.I w/out motor down.
Also any suggestions on models or if you see a good sell on them. Would like to stay around $500 (maybe unrealistic?)

I picked up an SI Helix 5 for my kayak. I don’t have any practical Expirence with this unit but the screen seems ample. Side imaging can be tough to see if you don’t turn off the screen overlays. Overall I gave $449 for the unit and have been impressed with what I’ve seen so far. Will post a better review once I get it in the water.
