A good tip.. find a piece of wire the diameter of the hole of an egg sinker, or close to it but bigger than your line, and thread it though the sinker. Lay the sinker on a concrete floor and hit it as hard as you can with a hammer. Remove the wire and you now have a no-roll sinker at half the cost. We used to do it with 1/8oz eggs for creek fishing a long time ago.
Genious. Thanks for that I’m gonna convert some of my regular bank sinkers this weekend.DWCMarch 20, 2014 at 5:04 pmPost count: 77DWCMarch 15, 2014 at 8:59 pmPost count: 77DWCMarch 15, 2014 at 2:45 amPost count: 77DWCMarch 14, 2014 at 5:13 pmPost count: 77
Pattern your shotgun…I learned the hard way. I was shooting around a foot off with the factory sights (mossberg tact. turkey) and that particular load. Also…take a rangefinder and shoot some reference points as u would bow hunting. Depending on the lay of the land, that bird might look 35 and is really 47.DWCMarch 13, 2014 at 2:37 pmPost count: 77DWCMarch 12, 2014 at 1:48 pmPost count: 77DWCJanuary 12, 2014 at 3:21 amPost count: 77
If I remember right Randy Anderson said on one of his original calling videos that he gets asked a lot how many sets he sees yotes on. I think he said 3/10. Thats a dude that I would consider a pro and he’s hunting in some awesome areas. Don’t be like so many that watch these shows on tv and when they try it for themselves it’s not quite so exciting. I”ve went 30 plus stands in a row before and saw nothing at all. Then, just when you think you have absolutely no idea what you’re doing…BAM one almost runs you over after you howl twice. Moral is-keep trying.DWCJanuary 12, 2014 at 3:13 amPost count: 77
There seems to be a common theme-people are not filling their tags. I’ve noticed a lot of people complaining that there are far too many tags issued in Iowa lately. There was a recent post blaming the Gov. for this. I wonder how many people complaining about the deer numbers are the ones buying a half dozen tags/year?DWCOctober 19, 2013 at 9:57 pmPost count: 77
I have a 95 Johnson 30 I was getting no spark from either. It wasn’t until a while later I realized the kill button broke, and was pushed in a bit farther than normal. I grabbed it with a needle nose and pulled it out and it was all good. I know this probably isn’t a common cause of not having spark, but it never crossed my mind until I was already frustrated.DWCOctober 4, 2013 at 2:12 amPost count: 77
Why would rough timber ground be closed? Nobody was maintaining it before so this shouldn’t affect anything. Besides, no federal employees will be around to write you a ticket. Hunt it.DWCSeptember 19, 2013 at 5:05 amPost count: 77
Kudos to Starbucks. That was a very well written letter and I don’t blame them one bit. If you are one of them adding them to your “boycott” list, I’m afraid you are part of the problem that turns the people on the fence toward the side of the antis. I’m very much pro gun and constantly carry concealed, but if you think walking around town and into stores with a rifle is helping your cause, I think you’re doing more harm than good.DWCAugust 13, 2013 at 4:56 amPost count: 77
After moving to SD from IA, I discovered everyone is walleye and perch crazy here. I enjoy sitting on the lake, but while doing so I keep thinking about the Big Sioux River and my dream trip, the Red River for cats. I finally got a buddy converted to catfishing. And when they’re not biting I can at least drive around and catch the flying carp with my boat. Luckily, none of the lakes around here provide that kind of opportunity…yet.DWCAugust 5, 2013 at 2:57 amPost count: 77DWCAugust 4, 2013 at 8:09 pmPost count: 77
I should add that if you do go out, the hot bait last night was Sonnys blood formula. The regular was working ok but when I switched it really picked up. They were going in spurts of 15 minutes on/30 minutes off for a few hours. Had a couple hard runs on cut up asian carp as well, but seemed if they felt the smallest bit of resistance they were dropping it. A couple weeks ago the asian carp chunks were working a lot better than fresh dead creek chubs. Good luck.
