I looked at the lrp and the f class models, settled for the VLP because of the drop out mag and availability! Savage has quite an array of target style rifles!

The scope is actually a 8.5-25 leupold! My bad.

If it would have been a bear he encountered the outcome would have been different, whether he was packing or not. You can bet he wouldn’t have tried to creep up and scare it off. He created the problem not the moose. If id have rounded a corner right on top of a moose and met that aggression id shoot no questions. But I don’t like how his situation went down at all.

In my profile picture I am holding a dpms lr308 with an m-308 scope. I love it! It has the fast action turrets marked to 800yds, which I like! I haven’t shot that far but with atomic brand 168gr hpbt loads it was on to the 300yd mark! I know in a prior thread the bdc reticle didn’t get much praise but for your hunting purposes it sounds like a good match.

Buy a gen 2or3 nvs and hunt on! No ir illuminator therefore not illegal! Coyotes and coon are the only critters to be shot at night. I also agree with the DNR officer that would stop anyone at night hunting. Play fair and it shouldnt matter. My 2 cents!

ICIC! Let us know how it shoots! Looks like our weather might actually straighten out enough to go out and shoot! FINALLY!!!

Group hunting is alot of fun and I hope you get the chance to go double 10! Another twist to coyote hunting is running them with dogs, what a blast! The group I went with doesnt usually let the dogs catch the coyote, they like the sport of trying to get in front and gun the dog down! Varmint bullets are the only bullets allowed, no city kids running around with ars and the cheapest full metals they can buy. Good ammunition thats not prone to richocet is a must regardless how you hunt them.

I had that exact scope on my DPMS LR-308 but sold it in favor of the M-308. Both are great scopes! The only reason I choose to sell was I wanted the rapid action turrets of the M-308. In my opinion Nikon is making the best scopes in the $100-500 dollar range. My girlfriend must have known this and bought me a p-223 3-9bdc for x-mas! This scope went on my DPMS 3g1 and I love it! Go with Nikon but view all there models and look through them all, you”ll be very happy!
