This doesn’t relate to how to fatten them up but might give another view.
I caught a 16 3/4 inch crappie and wanted to get it mounted and weighed for a big fish award also. So i had to take it to and authorized (certified) scale. I was feeling bad that I kept and took this fish out of the pond
just so I could put it on my wall.
After talking with the person where I got it weighed they said the fish had hit its prime and was never going to get bigger and only smaller. It weighed in a 2 pounds and I had it mounted.
If all of the Crappies and other fish are skinny I agree to clean a bunch of fish out. My thought would be leave the larger fish of any species alone and clean up medium to small fish first an adjust year by year.
But if its just a few maybe they are just older fish and out of there prime.calParticipantFebruary 24, 2018 at 12:21 amPost count: 2629calParticipantFebruary 23, 2018 at 12:58 amPost count: 2629::
We have one and like it but we only payed around $90. Seams to work best with things sprayed with oil or prepackaged (processed that way).
My home made breaded Morels stunk. needs oil.
counter space hog.
It is way faster than firing up the oven but does need to be baby sat to shake and turn ect.
Fish, I still like the deep fryer or oven baked, foil wrapped the best.
Did we need it no but does have a place.
Ours is smaller that works good for 2 or 3 but larger I would do the oven or oil firer instead.
O2 only.calParticipantJuly 21, 2017 at 1:34 amPost count: 2629::
I agree! I have several of the safety plastic gas cans and don’t trust or like them at all. I don’t know the brand right now but they will not vent at all. But they will split at the seam because of that and drain all the gas all over. I have bought a couple of the NO-SPILL cans that I like so far.
I still have the others but only for storm back up for the generator then empty asap.calParticipantFebruary 26, 2017 at 4:50 amPost count: 2629::
WOW! I would say you scored good KEV-CAT. I have the same one and will say it keeps the temp well but I’m having trouble getting the smoke where I like it. I don’t want a real heavy smoke but want it stronger than what I have done on this. Also you will need to play with the water tray to adjust the moisture you want. If you are doing any meat that has alot of fat or maybe any time use it, where you don’t care for dripping stains and cleanup set it on something to catch it. Now I know it sounds like I’m bad on it, I’m not saying I hate it, just things I’m working on it.
Kev-Cat I’m interested how your findings go.
Thanks!calParticipantJanuary 26, 2017 at 2:08 amPost count: 2629calParticipantJanuary 26, 2017 at 1:54 amPost count: 2629::

I was curious what you guys are paying the farmer to leave 1 – 2 acres of crops standing in the field for hunting season, be it corn or beans? Thinking about asking the farmer this year… just curious what the going rate is… Thanks!
My question is does someone pay to leave crop in the field on lease? I know the Iowa dot does for a natural fence for snow control. Native do you own land that you rent in Iowa and are asking?calParticipantDecember 8, 2016 at 1:21 amPost count: 2629::
Got into a good deal at cost co on Feit 100w eq. 1600 lumens at 9 watts total usage, 5000k color, 15,000 hr life for 1.99 a bulb on a 10 pack. I like so far but will have to see how long they last. I have also used earthled.com several times through Amazon and like so far but haven’t had many of them long but the prices are good to me so far.calParticipantJuly 28, 2016 at 5:50 pmPost count: 2629::
Tenting and NON electric? If not needing electricity I would just go and not worry about reservations. From what I’ve been seeing the majority of non electric sites sit empty. Check out Gull point camp ground. Also like Joe said Marble beach is nice. Check out Cenla by Center lake. If you don’t find one their you can check out these three parks\ camp grounds. https://firstname.lastname@example.org,-95.1105273,16.11z I wouldn’t be afraid to go you will find a spot.calParticipantJune 1, 2016 at 1:49 amPost count: 2629calParticipantMay 11, 2016 at 2:17 amPost count: 2629calParticipantApril 19, 2016 at 12:53 amPost count: 2629::
They taste close to blue gill, perch, and crappie. They don’t have a lot of bones. If they have any red meat remove it. Keep them as cold as you can after catching and they are good table fair. The bad side is they over populate and kill every thing including them self’s out.
Please keep all you catch and put them to good use, but don’t move them to another body of water.calParticipantMarch 23, 2016 at 11:42 pmPost count: 2629calParticipantMarch 18, 2016 at 1:10 amPost count: 2629::
I haven’t read every thing under LenH post but it does make me think of growing up. If we were not brought up in a fishing, hunting world we may not have read all the regulations that we needed to or that pertained to what we are doing. but we trusted or parents to get us there. But I know I have been guilty looking back. I some times read and reread it today wondering if its right or not. If we have trouble reading it and the DNR have trouble interpenetrating it, Who is right? Send it to the courts and let them decide seams to be the answer. I’m still not understanding that logic.
If we don’t teach our kids right who will? But if we as adults cant read it, and the interpretation is in question how do we teach our kids right? right!

I know this site has many pages but maybe it needs a lets vent page along with a battlefront page. I know I have stept on my tongue a time or two but I also have gained alot out of many of the inputs, even though I might not have liked it at the time. Looks like this is a lets vent page? Remember it’s HUMP day! LOL.calParticipantJanuary 27, 2016 at 2:45 amPost count: 2629::
I have used them in the past. I didnt always watch them and charge regularly. So every time I grabbed the camera they were low or dead. Also the run time seemed alot shorter than alkaline. The phone takes as good of photos except for distant pictures so the camera gets left behind alot other than trips.calParticipantJanuary 14, 2016 at 1:53 amPost count: 2629::

I had a bushnell several years ago that did this same thing.
I took it apart and found that one of the 0-rings was dried out and cracked,I found a new one that matched at an auto parts store,coated both of them with a small film of dielectric grease and warmed the scope up with a hair drier to dry it out.
while it was still warm,I reassembled it and let it cool before remounting it,didnt have any trouble with it after that.
another old red field I had did this also,but I couldnt save it because the barrel was dinged where the objective lens sealed and was out of round and no longer provided a truly round sealing surface.
Interesting never thought about that before! Thanks!!calParticipantJanuary 11, 2016 at 1:50 amPost count: 2629::

Went to Clear Lake for the first time yesterday. We ended up with 34 crappie kept 50 fish total. Had 9 walleye but no size to them. Threw back a bunch of small yellows and perch. I caught all of my fish on a rattle spoon with dropper chain and waxie. My buddy was using a white spoon with waxies and minnow heads. Nice lake wish it was about 5 hours closer.
Nice report! I’ve been to the lake several times but never had time for fishing. Glad you got into some fish!
