Yes-Stock recoil spring replacement. Didn’t cycle with old one or new one.
Yes clean magazine spring and tube.
Have not tried a different barrel on this gun other then my 26″ barrel. Would like to shoot another 30″ full choke barrel on my gun, but need to find a willing participant….
ThanksBusterParticipantSeptember 30, 2015 at 2:41 pmPost count: 35::
The extractor was new last year and is functioning properly. The ejector is there, appears no chips or dings and functions when cycling shells manually by hand.
I did just read on Remington site about shooting steel through this barrel. And that gun MAY not cycle 3″ steel loads due to the steel shot muzzle velocity and the port size in the existing barrel.
This could explain the problem. Of course they sell a replacement steel shot barrel for $300….
That wouldn’t explain why for years we’ve been able to shoot 3″ steel with our current barrel and now all the sudden doesn’t work. Unless the port size has worn enough over the years causing a gas issue. Either too much or not enough gas to cycle. In my mind it seems to almost be something related to the gas system. With all parts being new, yet problem keeps staying with that 30″ barrel…BusterParticipantSeptember 30, 2015 at 1:28 pmPost count: 35BusterParticipantSeptember 30, 2015 at 12:45 pmPost count: 35::
Fellas I really thought I was on to something. I got that chamber and barrel polished up. Any corrosion or resistance to shells being placed into and taken out of the chamber was gone. Could slide shells in and out with ease
I then took and shot. NO CYCLE still….uhhgg.
I then tried to duplicate what I did the other day using ground as backstop for the gun. Gun about a 30-45 degree angle. Fired 3 shells and it wouldn’t cycle any of them either, even though it did just a few days ago.. Man this is sucks.
Just to regroup. REM 1100 Magnum gun and 30″full choke barrel for 3″ shells will not cycle the shell out. Bolt opens up about halfway and goes back shut. Every once in awhile you have have the bolt open up far enough for the spent casing to get get caught up between the bolt and front chamber edge(not often).
Replaced both metal gas rings, rubber o-ring, and recoil spring in stock. Super cleaned gun, port, barrel polished. Still no cycle.
But gun does cycle and work flawlessly with another 26″ 2 3/4″ barrel that we have for the gun.
Thanks all for the input so far!BusterParticipantSeptember 29, 2015 at 3:49 pmPost count: 35::
(Maybe when held vertically gravity gave the stuck shell a little boost so it was able to cycle normally?)
Gun was at about 30deg angle with bottom corner edge of stock against ground…
(Have you ever cleaned the recoil spring in the butt? Perhaps it needs replaced or scrubbed up as well.)
Brand new spring per original post, spring tube cleaned as well.BusterParticipantSeptember 29, 2015 at 2:57 pmPost count: 35::
Yep Whip, we sure do.
Will def polish chamber and do it at my own demise Trap.
Weird thing in my mind is still how it will shoot and cycle with the 30″ barrel when I held the butt against ground as compared to up against shoulder…it cycled fine that way, Held back up against shoulder and no cycle…

Yes- metal rings are 180 degrees apart. Yes-did drill bit through gas port. Cleaned and carbon free. Yes- No nicks, scrapes, dings along magazine tube or parts
Yes-30″ only has 1 port where, 26″ has 2 ports.
I have not tried 2 3/4 magnum loads through the 30″ barrel will try that and confirm they either do or don’t eject. Have only seen the problem so far with the 3″ shells.
It does seem to me when cycling by hand that it’s not as smooth as should be.
It was late last night and checking the chamber. Someone had mentioned may need polishing. I did try to put 3″ shell into chamber and it was tough sliding it in the last 1″ or so, definitely not smooth. And I placed some shot 3″ shells in chamber with crimps open and it was even tougher.
Again, it seems to me that it is something pertaining to the 30″ barrel for 3″ shells, cause the 26″ barrel for 2 3/4 fires and cycles just fine. As in the carrier, slide action, springs, gas pistons, etc…are functioning are working like a charm…just something to do all the sudden with not liking that 30″ barrel and 3″ shells that it was made for.
Thanks all!BusterParticipantSeptember 28, 2015 at 7:52 pmPost count: 35BusterParticipantSeptember 28, 2015 at 5:02 pmPost count: 35BusterParticipantSeptember 28, 2015 at 3:34 pmPost count: 35BusterParticipantSeptember 28, 2015 at 2:58 pmPost count: 35BusterParticipantJune 27, 2012 at 4:31 pmPost count: 35BusterParticipantJune 26, 2012 at 6:25 pmPost count: 35BusterParticipantJune 26, 2012 at 5:38 pmPost count: 35BusterParticipantJanuary 3, 2012 at 1:45 amPost count: 35
