I’m attempting to tan an otter hide and have questions on turning the ears and splitting the lips. I’ve read that it’s necessary and I’ve read that it’s not. If it’s needed, what’s the best way to go about it?
I use a scalpel.
Google it. There are several videos and instructions online. I split the lips and turn the ears while skinning, seems easier to me. The ears are WAY easier to turn while you’re skinning.
I use a beaver knife to fillet off the lips.
