    Here was the trailing beard dragger following the hen that checked out my rabbit distress.

    You can’t be out in the late afternoon or evening too early.  But, if I know where the likely roost is I try to get between them and the roost area and catch them coming in to roost.  At a minimum get there 2 to 2 1/2 hours before fly up time, otherwise they’ve probably beat you there and are just hanging around to fly up and then most likely you’re done.
