There was enough wind we had a perfect drift. Otherwise year we would have trolled.

I am trying to get started…I went out on Saylorville in the morning recently and trolled a live chub on a santee rig about 0.5 mph along the south bank and then up and down along the bridge. No hits. Not looking for anybody’s favorite spot or anything but am I on the right track?

I think water depth plays a large part. Try to stay in 17-22 feet of water. .05-1.0 mph should be sufficient.

I have been fishing the Des Moines river and been doing alright from shore. Wish I had a boat I feel the action would be a lot faster if I could cover some more water.

always been intrigued with the various colors of flatheads.  I’ve seen them bronze, almost black, various shades of green, bright yellow and mottled.  all out of the DSM river.  wonder if they are different species or can they change their color based on environment?
