I had always assumed this was ok.  But then I read that some states actually do not allow it.

    What is Iowa law?

I have found that carrying my .38 cross-draw is quite useful in the car.  I would like to add something to my right front pocket, as well.

    Completely legal w/valid permit

It’s legal with a valid permit (in legal areas) and also legal without a permit in unincorporated territory (IE, walking around in the country open carrying doesn’t require a permit and never has in Iowa law).
