What’s your thinking on hanging a deer this weekend with the warm temps? Do they need to be put in a cooler right away?huntersafeParticipantNovember 29, 2017 at 12:29 amPost count: 363
25 degrees tonight here and 31 tomorrow. The ideal temp for ageing the meat is 40. If it freezes I cut up right away.gellarParticipantNovember 29, 2017 at 1:01 amPost count: 283

As long as it gets down to 30-35 at night and doesn’t get above 55 or 60 I think you’ll be fine to hang. The key will be to get the deer gutted and cooled ASAP. Hang it in the shade and get air moving around it. This will help form a crust to protect the meat. I’ve hung moose in Alaska and elk as long as 10 days in conditions very similar. It is not ideal, but if you take caution it will be fine.
