A few years ago Iowa voted that the next time we raised the sales tax a percent would go directly into habitat. Is anyone working this or is it just dead? I remember talk when it happened of rescinding a percent of sales tax and then raising it again so that we could fund the initiative.smallmunsterParticipantOctober 10, 2018 at 9:41 amPost count: 88
The Iowa Association of County Conservation Boards and many other conservation organizations have been working on this for over a decade. They came fairly close in the last year or two, but it has not happened yet. There are two issues, raising the tax itself (not a real popular idea in Des Moines even with some ideas to lower other taxes to offset it) and keeping the original formula. Many politicians want to change how the money is used even if it does pass.
