I usedd to think this was crazy until I went on a fishing trip by Watertown SD.
I pulled a camper on to the ice and we camped out . Ice was about 26 in. The wind chill was 30 below.
If our heater went out i think we would be dead. It still was cold with the camper..
fishing was more than excelent as we got the limit of 50 Jumbo Perc per personl. (that is no longer the limit there now days) and I got several 7 to 10 lb Northerns thru the ice and
a few nice walleye including a 25 inb walleye. Love it!!!1 B) Damn northerns get awfull slimy that sucked.Well i was at big creek on saturday the 8th and at about 6:00 me and my buddy are in our shack and hear ice growning more than it was normally i stick my head out the ice and see some moron coming with 1/2 ton suburban pulling a 20 ft enclosed snowmobile trailer. they pulled within 10 yards of our shack i was PISSED and nervous at the same time we left shortly after the guy that got out of the truck says ” I hope the ice will hold my truck” YOU CANT FIX STUPID!!! there was about 8-9 inches where we were not cool! that was the only truck or car on the ice 1 four wheeler and snow mobiles were out but c’mon a 1/2 ton with an enclosed trailer C”MON MAN!!!
You have to stick a ruler down to get a good measurement I have not been on anywhere out there that is less than 11″ in the last 2 weeks. I have not been down since last weekend and we had 3 vehicles on the ice w/out incidents. I can only imagine the ice has gained a few inches in the last few below zero nights.
