Thinking about expanding my collection for an upcoming hog hunt but want something I can also use around here. Has anyone experimented with the 450 Bushmaster?  I’m seeing a lot of conflicting info out there regarding barrel length, twist rate, load components, etc.  I realize it’s not much more than a 200-300 yard rifle but I don’t want to settle for something that’s “just okay” either. Any suggestions or recommendations?  I haven’t had much luck finding dies or much of a bullet selection in the DSM area either.

I’m no expert and have limited experience with a 450 bushmaster.

I can say, I seen a big doe drop in her tracks when with a 450 B at about 60 yards using a relaod that has virtually no recoil. Not sure of the muzzle velocity.

The AR platform is quit heavy, but they seem to work well and I haven’t seen that many issues with cycling. If you do it usually just needs a little tweaking of the mag.

I would get a bolt action with a 20in plus berral with a break, if still hunting or shooting from a stand.

Although you will have more felt recoil with the bolt action than with the heavier AR platform.
