Struck out first season, poor conditions and henned up toms. Got out fourth season and almost tagged out opening morning but a hen busted me when I went to lift my shotgun. Two days later I was hunting the same area and got in the woods at 5:30am, got setup and waited for the wind to die down. Once it quit blowing I through out a light yelp on my slate call and the tom roared off from the bottom of the ridge. Ten minutes later I threw another light yelp at him and he roared right back. Got my Eotech turned on and seen him coming up the ridge to me a minute later. He came to thirty yards and I put the red dot on him and put him down. Season was over for me at 6:00am. Bird had 1 1/8” spurs and a 9.5” beard, weighed 24 pounds. Great tom and my first successful public land bird. Best of luck to everyone else hunting 4th season, seems the birds are active!
